Berry chooses the Chiefs in Super Bowl 58 and asks the 49ers fans to forgive him.

NBC Sports fantasy football analyst Matthew Berry wants 49ers fans to steer clear of his Super Bowl LVIII choice.

Berry told NBC Sports Bay Area's Laura Britt on Tuesday at Radio Row in Las Vegas why he thinks the Chiefs will win the Super Bowl on Sunday. “Don’t hate me [49ers fans], I hope the Chiefs win," Berry stated. "I’m sorry, don’t hate me guys

Berry explained why he feels Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes will be too much for San Francisco after saying the 49ers are a terrific team built via the NFL draft and trades.

"So, I'd be fine if I was wrong, but Andy Reid off a bye in the playoffs in the Mahomes era is 6-1 with more than a week to prepare," Berry added. His only loss came versus Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. I like Brock Purdy but not Tom Brady.

The Chiefs shut down Miami's offense, Buffalo's Josh Allen and Bills offense, Baltimore's Lamar Jackson. They now face a Niners squad that failed to contain Jordan Love and Jared Goff at home on a neutral field. I believe it's tight, but the Chiefs win.”

The Chiefs have struggled offensively in the 2023 NFL season, with several dropped passes and bad rout running. Previous Super Bowl trips relied on Mahomes blowing it out to his excellent receivers. Kansas City has depended on an exceptional defense, with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo shutting down top NFL quarterbacks in the playoff

The 49ers' defense, which has struggled in the playoffs, will be crucial to the game, especially against the run. Purdy vs. Mahomes has been widely discussed. The NFC Championship Game against the Detroit Lions showed this when San Francisco allowed 182 running yards.

San Francisco defensive coordinator Steve Wilks has promised to make Super Bowl changes, but Mahomes and dynamic running back Isiah Pacheco will make it difficult. In Super Bowl LIV, the 49ers were up by double digits in the fourth quarter but fell short as Kansas City scored 21 unanswered points to win 31-20.
