Super Bowl LVIII might be the last game for a 49ers coach before they leave for a position as a job coordinator.
New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak was reportedly being courted by the 49ers on Friday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who cited sources.
The finalization of a possible trade between Kubiak and New Orleans cannot take place until Sunday, Feb. 11, following San Francisco's matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium.
Although this is his rookie season with the 49ers, Kubiak has been with the NFL for ten years, during which time he served as play-caller
Klint debuted in 2013 with the Minnesota Vikings as a quality control/assistant wide receivers coach; he is the son of legendary NFL coach Gary Kubiak.
In 2016, after spending two seasons with the Vikings, Kubiak became the quarterbacks coach for the Denver Broncos. Upon his return to Minnesota in 2019, he took a position coaching the quarterbacks before being elevated to offensive coordinator the following year (2021).
Kubiak was hired back by the Broncos in 2022 to serve as passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach following Mike Zimmer's firing as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. After a disappointing start (3-6), head coach Nathaniel Hackett delegated play-calling responsibilities to Kubiak.
Last month, the Saints fired Pete Carmichael, ending his 15-year tenure as offensive coordinator. As a result, the post remains vacant. If New Orleans were to recruit Kubiak, he would join a small group of offensive coordinators and assistants who have been promoted from under Kyle Shanahan. This group includes former 49ers assistant and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and current Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.
