When asked if he supports RNC chairperson, Trump says there will ‘probably be some adjustments made’

New York— In a Sunday interview, former President Donald Trump warned the Republican National Committee chairwoman that there will “probably be some changes made.” Trump was questioned by Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo about Ronna McDaniel, who has been under fire from Trump friends like Turning Point, which tried to unseat her last year.

I think she ran Michigan well for me. I think she started well in RNC. Trump indicated on FOX News Channel's Sunday Morning Futures that adjustments are likely. Trump was also questioned about the RNC's finances after campaign records this week revealed $8 million in the bank and $1 million in debt.

So I have a lot of money,” Trump claimed in the Sunday interview, contending that “people are not looking at the RNC. They want modifications.” You must realize, I am unrelated to the RNC. He said, "I'm separate." Even though his former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley is his final significant opponent, Trump and his friends have been urging the party to support him and terminate the primary.

After Trump won the New Hampshire primary, McDaniel told Fox News: “We need to unite around our eventual nominee, which is going to be Donald Trump.” He was blasted last month for claiming Haley had little chance of winning Trump associates withdrew their attempt to have the RNC label him the “presumptive nominee” this week when he opposed it.

McDaniel, who earned a fourth two-year term last year, called for party unity to beat President Joe Biden at the RNC's winter gathering in Las Vegas Friday.

“We Republicans will stick together, as united as the union our party long ago fought to preserve,” McDaniel said, paraphrasing Ronald Reagan, according to participants who requested anonymity to discuss a private meeting.

Trump and the RNC collaborated on his unsuccessful 2020 campaign, but they clashed on several matters this time. Trump has refused to sign the party's loyalty pledge, missed all primary debates, and questioned early and mail-in voting, even as the RNC promotes “Bank Your Vote” to encourage both.

Trump continued to press the party to unify behind him in the interview, claiming Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell, who has been heavily critical of the former president since he left office, wants to join his increasing list of endorsements.

“I hear Mitch McConnell wants to endorse me,” he said. “Everyone lines up. All are joining.” McConnell representatives did not reply to calls for comment. McConnell has avoided the primary but says he will back the nominee.
